1. Swisher Commercial Pro 66″ Finish Cut Mower
The Swisher Trailmower 66″ 14.5 HP Commercial Pro Fast Finish Cut Mower has a user-friendly design. It’s easy to use. It’s not lightweight, though: at 385 pounds, it is the heaviest mower we tested. But the mower has a 66″ (160 cm) side-discharge deck, so it’s best suited for large lawns, such as parks, resorts and hotels, and country clubs. The mower has a 14.5 HP (603cc) Kawasaki engine. The mower is quiet, and at 16.5 mph, we cut grass faster than anyone else in our tests. The mower has 3 G6 Gator Mulching Blades and a 66″ (160 cm) discharge deck. A universal articulating hitch lets the mower maneuver easily behind whatever is pulling it.
The 2.5-gallon fuel tank means less downtime and more productivity for getting the job done fast—a 14.5 HP Kawasaki engine powers the mower. The mower is lightweight and very easy to maneuver. The mower is compact, so it can easily be transported in the back of a truck. The mower has an easy-to-use key starter, so firing up the mower is a snap rather than a big workout. The mower has a 2.5-gallon fuel tank, which means less downtime and more productivity for completing the job quickly and returning to your weekend. The mower comes with a 2-year warranty.

2. Swisher RC14544CPKA 14.5HP 12V Kawasaki 44″ Commercial Pro Rough Cut tralcutter
The Swisher RC14544CPKA 14.5HP 44-inch Kawasaki trail cutter is a sturdy electric tralcutter ideal for commercial or professional use. It has an adjustable height handle, a 2.5-gallon fuel tank, and a dual break-away swinging blade design, so it should handle most residential-sized stumps easily. Although this machine’s cutting width is relatively narrow for a tralcutter, its cutting depth is adjustable, giving you more control.
We liked how easy it was to figure out and operate and how simple it was to change the blades, oil, and spark plug. The cutting height on the tralcutter is 3 inches to 7 inches, so it’s easily adjustable for turf, sod, or brush. The tralcutter has an adjustable cutting height, so you don’t have to guess how high the blades need to be to cut something. Also, the tralcutter’s electric starting system is a step up from manual models. It means there’s no fuel mix to worry about, and you can start the tralcutter with a cord you pull from a 6-volt battery.
Finally, the tralcutter’s included universal articulating hitch has a 2-inch ball coupler, so hooking up a riding lawn mower or tractor is simple. It’s a solid, well-built machine that cuts efficiently, so it’s a good choice for professional landscaping companies, rental yards, or anyone who regularly runs a tralcutter.

3. WRC11524CL – Swisher Predator 24 in. Walk Behind Rough Cut Mower
The Swisher Predator 24-inch walk-behind lawn mower is a solid choice for homeowners who want a reliable, slightly more powerful mower than the smaller, cheaper models we tested. The Predator’s 11.5-horsepower engine is more powerful than the engines on many competing models, and it has enough torque to cut through thick grass without bogging down.
The Predator mowed a 24-inch-wide swath through the thickest grass, and it didn’t bog down or become mired in the thickest or wettest grass. The mower is self-propelled, but the Predator’s top speed of 4.2 mph is slower than top speeds on other self-propelled walk-behind mowers, so you’ll need to use it extra slowly when mowing around tight curves or obstacles. The Predator’s design is also slightly more complicated to operate than on many other walk-behind mowers, as the mower’s throttle lever is on the front of the handlebar instead of on the mower’s handle, and it’s difficult to operate the mower with your hands full and your back to the mower.
The mower’s cutting height adjustment is more complicated and difficult than on competing models. But, if you take the time to read the operator’s manual, you can operate the mower without problems, and the mower’s electronically controlled 4-speed transmission makes mowing in varying conditions easy. The Predator’s overall cutting quality was decent in our tests, and the mower’s 24-inch cutting width can handle both small lawns and larger yards. The Predator’s build quality is solid, and the mower’s 4-wheel-drive system helps it maneuver around obstacles.

4. Swisher FC14560BS 14.5 HP 60-Inch Electric Start Tow Behind Finish Cut Mower
The Swisher FC14560BS is a nice mower for small to medium yards, and it’s not too big to mow more than a couple of acres. Its 60-inch cutting width is perfect for cutting most lawns. The mower is also relatively quiet, and the 14.5-horsepower engine is powerful enough to get the job done. The mower also has an automatic oiler, which we found worked better than our previous pick’s belt-driven oiler.
While previous models of the Swisher mower tended to stall out on steep slopes, the FC14560BS was surprisingly agile, making it less chore to mow along a steep hillside. Unfortunately, this mower does not have Cruise Control, so cutting along a fence or hedge is more challenging without running out of gas. Fortunately, this mower has a reasonably large gas tank, and we only needed to refuel it a couple of times per mowing session.
The mower also has a handy mulch plug, which we’ve found to be a great feature for leaf-free fall and spring cleanups. This mower has an electric start, making it quieter and easier to use, and it’s a good choice for those with arthritis or hand tremors. Models are available with a 24-inch or 36-inch cutting deck.

- Height adjustment: Most mowers allow you to adjust the height using a lever. We preferred mowers that provided multiple height settings.
- Power: The more power the mower has, the less time it will take you to cut your lawn.
- Comfort features: If you often mow your lawn, you might be tempted to buy a mower that provides little or no comfort features. But having padded hand grips and handles, padded seats, and an adjustable seat height can make mowing more pleasant.
- Storage features: Some mowers allow you to store the mower in a garage or shed without removing its attached bag.
- Maneuverability: Avoid mowers that are heavy or bulky. Look for mowers that are light and easy to push, with wheels that turn easily.
- Battery: Battery-operated lawn mowers are ideal for people with limited outdoor space.
- Cutting width: Variable cutting widths allow you to adjust the size of your lawn. Smaller cutting widths, 20 inches or less, are ideal for small yards.
- Mowing length: Longer mowing lengths, 21 inches or more, are ideal for more extensive lawns.
- Handle height: Handle height should match the size of your mowing, especially if you have limited reach.
- Safety features are essential because you do not want to injure yourself while cutting your lawn. Therefore, when purchasing a lawn mower, you must look at safety features like brake systems, automatic blade shut-off, safety handles, etc.
- Weight: Taller mowers are generally heavier, so make sure your mower’s weight matches your physical capabilities.
- Deck material can affect performance and durability, so we prefer mowers with durable steel decks.
- Warranty: The basic warranty for a mower is two to three years. We favored mowers that have longer warranties.
